The outer bands of Hurricane Erin neared North Carolina's Outer Banks on Wednesday evening, prompting the National Hurricane Center to issue warnings against swimming at most East Coast beaches.
An updated storm surge warning was issued by the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC on Wednesday at 10:58 a.m. in effect until 7 p.m. for Northern Outer Banks.
The storm has triggered a state of emergency in North Carolina and has caused residents and visitors along the Outer Banks to be under evacuation orders.
