Oracle confirms it's spinning Java EE to an open-source foundation with IBM and Red Hat's support.

Oracle has tapped IBM and Red Hat to help transition Java EE to the Eclipse Foundation in an effort to further open the platform and spur innovation around it.

With the finalization of the Java EE 8 platform on the horizon, Oracle on Thursday said it's considering moving Java Enterprise Edition technologies to an open source foundation.
