In the latest Windows 10 Insider build, Microsoft has released a new version of Notepad that includes changes that bring it closer to what we have come to expect from modern text file editors.

You can change the default Character Encoding in Notepad from UTF-8 to ANSI, UTF-16 LE, UTF-16 BE, UTF-8 BOM. using Registry Editor.

The latest Windows 10 Fast Ring test build, No. 18298, adds a bunch of new Notepad features, alongside other relatively minor feature and settings updates.
