In the latest Windows 10 Insider build, Microsoft has released a new version of Notepad that includes changes that bring it closer to what we have come to expect from modern text file editors.

You can change the default Character Encoding in Notepad from UTF-8 to ANSI, UTF-16 LE, UTF-16 BE, UTF-8 BOM. using Registry Editor.

The Windows 10 Notepad text editor will soon notify its users if they’re running an outdated version of the program.
