Editing a .docx file on Mac This one’s easy. A .docx file will open quite happily in Word for Mac, of course, but it can also be edited in Pages, the nearest thing to a first-party Apple equivalent.
You can open a Microsoft Word document in Pages if you don't have Word on your Mac computer. Here's how to do it.
Click "File" in Pages '09 and then choose "Open" from the menu. Select the DOCX document using the built-in file browser and then click "Open" to open it in Pages.
Open iWork Pages. Click "File," click "Open" and then select the PAGES file, or choose the document from the Open Recent drop-down menu in the Template Chooser window.
