Tired of Amazon Prime? Canceling it might not be as straightforward as you think. Here's what you need to know.
Amazon Prime subscribers who were registered between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025 will be eligible for up to $51.
The $2.5 billion settlement is made up of a $1 billion civil penalty paid to the government, the largest ever involving an FTC rule violation, and $1.5 billion in refunds to affected consumers, the second-highest restitution award ever obtained by the FTC.
Amazon will pay $2.5 billion in penalties and refunds to settle allegations that it enrolled its customers in Prime subscriptions without their consent and made it difficult for them to cancel, the FTC announced Thursday.
If you’re an Amazon Prime member, be aware that you may be losing a key perk. The online retailer is sunsetting the Prime Invitee Program, which gives Prime members permission to share Prime delivery benefits with people outside their household, according to Amazon’s customer service page.
The Prime Invitee Program was launched in 2009 and allowed customers to share Prime benefits with anyone, regardless of primary address.
The original benefit ended Wednesday and members must now sign up for a different Prime subscription to continue using it.
