In a Microsoft 365 support page, the company announced that all browser links from Outlook and Teams will now open in Edge, disregarding the default browser setting in the PC.
Microsoft 365 IT administrators have been informed that links in the Outlook and Teams apps will all open in the Edge browser in future, regardless of the default browser chosen by users.
Not content with forcing all Windows 11 users to have the Edge browser installed, Microsoft is now going to open all links clicked in Outlook or Teams using Edge by default.
So, Microsoft's plan is to essentially exempt links in its core apps from your default settings. Even if you have a Chrome window open, clicking a link in these apps will open an instance of Edge.
Outlook opens links in your default web browser. If the links in Outlook are not opening in Chrome, check your default web browser for HTTP and HTTPS in Widows 11/10 Settings.
Microsoft has warned IT admins that it will force Outlook and Teams to ignore the default web browser on Windows and open links in Microsoft Edge instead.
