The zip command lets you compress files to preserve them or back them up, and you can require a password to extract the contents of a zip file.

Windows Windows supports creating compressed files via PowerShell from v5.0+, however, while it natively supports ZIP creation it does not support encryption and has a file limit of just 2GB.
