Oracle has tapped IBM and Red Hat to help transition Java EE to the Eclipse Foundation in an effort to further open the platform and spur innovation around it.

DDC-I’s Scorpion Java development environment aims to simplify the development of hard real-time applications that combine Java, C, EC++, and Ada.

More likely, though, is choosing Java because of the Eclipse platform's portability. Significant improvements in Java performance make it more than suitable for a user interface.
