Introductory Java books are a rather popular bunch. If you’re interested in Java programming, you have to start somewhere. Most people pick up at least one book to get them started.

I'm looking for a book, a GOOD book, that details the Java language starting with the basics, or starting with only ASCII programs, and moving up into the Java GUI environment. Any suggestions?
