Less than two weeks ago, the much-awaited Minecraft 1.18 update was released. It brought quite a few new features to Minecraft, such as new caves and mountain biomes.

This patch update is the first for Minecraft: Java Edition after the release of 1.18 Caves and Cliffs Update Part Two, the second and final part of the Caves and Cliffs Update.

The Minecraft 1.18 update will be out on November 30, 2021. It will come out at once for all devices and consoles that support Minecraft Bedrock or Java Edition.

Mojang Studios is now releasing Minecraft: Java Edition 1.18.1 Release Candidate 1 to testers, a snapshot that includes a handful of additional fixes for the upcoming 1.18.1 patch update.

Minecraft runs on Java version 17 as of this pre-release – and you can expect the same to be true of the live version of Java Edition once 1.18 officially lands.

Take note that these are all Java seeds. Mojang has gotten close to identical seeds for terrain in Java and Bedrock 1.18, but structures like villages aren't always consistent.
