PHP 5では、 1つのクラスに同じ名前のメソッドは定義できないのですが、 PHP 4ではこういった実装が認められていました。 同じ名前のメソッドを2つ書くメリットは特にないと思うので、 おそらくコピペしてそのまま放置されたのでしょう。
