A robot chess player went outside the usual rules of the game by making a move that shocked onlookers and left its seven-year-old opponent with a broken finger.

"The robot broke the child's finger - this, of course, is bad," said Moscow Chess Federation president Sergey Lazarev.

This robot is essentially a chess-playing robotic arm which can grasp pieces, move them to another square, and then press the chess timer to finish its move.
