I have a Mpeg file, but if i burn it onto a cd, my vcd player will not load the cd. How do i get it so the vcdplayer will play the file as a vcd?

I have a movie in VCD format in two files, totalling 1GB. I wanted to burn this movie onto only one CD, so I tried DivX-ing it. It wasn't as easy as I thought...there are a couple of problems I have ...
