Developers using Java tooling with Visual Studio Code now have a better 'Getting Started' experience thanks to new functionality in the September Java extensions update.

Microsoft introduced a new installer to make it easier to code with the No. 1 programming language, Java, in the No. 1 development environment, Visual Studio Code.

Oracle has released the Oracle Java Platform extension for Visual Studio Code, bringing full-featured Java development for Maven and Gradle projects to Microsoft’s popular code editor.

It will soon be possible to write and edit Java code entirely from within the Visual Studio IDE, thanks to an upgrade of JNBridge's namesake general purpose Java/.NET interoperability tool.

The October update of Microsoft's Visual Studio Code for Java comes with updates in the code editing and debugging experience, thanks to the Java 19 preview of Virtual Threads in Project Loom.

Planned Java-related improvements for VS Code range from smarter code completion and better debugging to deeper integration with Kubernetes and cloud services.
