(Reuters) -Futures tied to Canada's main stock index edged lower on Tuesday, as U.S. President Donald Trump's fresh tariff threats renewed trade war fears, while investors awaited the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision.

The Trump administration is freezing future research grants for Harvard University until it concedes to enforce sweeping policy changes, in the latest funding threat against the Ivy League school. Education Department Secretary Linda McMahon reiterated demands for Harvard to address antisemitism concerns and its diversity policies,

As for the Fed, Trump did say in a TV interview that he would not seek to remove Powell from being chairman of the Fed before his term ends next year. Many legal experts and Powell said they did not think Trump has the power, but at least this removes some of the uncertainty surrounding the central bank for the moment.
