AWS today announced a new database product that is clearly meant to go after Microsoft’s SQL Server and make it easier — and cheaper — for SQL Server users to migrate to the AWS cloud.

AWS CEO Andy Jassy said that use of Aurora Multi-Master would guarantee customers zero application downtime from failure of database nodes or availability zones.

The more database and analytics workloads AWS takes the more it can use machine learning and model training to move up the value chain.

At the start of the migration process, FactSet has already moved workloads from a relational database to four different database services on AWS.
