Waymo has been given the green light to test its self-driving cars on New York City streets. Mayor Eric Adams announced Friday that the tech company was awarded the first permit to start testing autonomous vehicles in the city this year.

New Yorkers have been spotting Waymos—with their distinctive, rotating laser sensors on top—driving across Manhattan as the autonomous vehicle company tests in the nation’s largest city, though they will still have human drivers for the foreseeable future.
